Hence, the recent Disney release calendar reshuffle, which eliminated the header labelled ‘untitled Star Wars film targeted for late 2026’ make sense. The untitled Star Wars film set for 18 December 2026 has been cancelled. Earlier this month, Disney made an announcement about Ice Age 6, which made mention of completion of the film in 2026 but without a specific date. The Star Wars film has not found a new release schedule either.

Reasons For Disney Revising The 2025 Release Slate

This news comes after speculations on a possible recent change about the Star Wars franchise. It is also said that Simon Kinberg is developing the script for a fresh trilogy of Star Wars movies which starring Daisy Ridley, as Rey, will continue the Skywalker Saga.

However, as to the moment, there are no official confirmed narrative details for those films. Some additional spin-off movies featuring actors Donald Glover, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi, James Mangold, etc. are reportedly being prepared.

However, ironically, an unnamed Star Wars feature film is back on schedule for December 17, 2027.

Replacing the scheduled box office is ICE AGE 6 which is to be released on December 18, 2026. Daisy Ridley was set to revert back to her role of Rey in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s unannounced project based around the rebuilding of the Jedi Order fifteen years after the events of ‘The Rise of Skywalker.’

Obaid-Chinoy is a hostile journalist and filmmaker. She has even directed two prolific episodes of “Ms. Marvel” domiciled within the Marvel Cinematic Universe fresh acts records. Her undertaking within the live-action franchise of the “Star Wars” and in the timeline where her feature will be set is the farthest into the future.

The last chapter of the Star Wars living action saga, characterized as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and directed by J.J. Abrams was released in 2019. It served as the concluding portion of the Skywalker Saga which firstly, “introduced” audiences to Star Wars in 1977 with Star Wars: A New Hope.

What is the next installment of Star Wars that will be released?

The Mandalorian and Grogu is the only Star Wars movie that is confirmed to have a release date this includes theaters. Its cinematic release is scheduled on May 22, 2026. As of now, there is not much information available regarding the storyline.

Apart from Grogu and Zeb Orrelios voiced by Steven Yeun, Pedro Pascal is also going to reprise his role as Din Djarin from the series The Mandalorian. One more cast member that has been included is Sigourney Weaver famous for her role in the series Alien.

Of course, another new series set in the Star Wars universe will be coming to Disney+ in December, but it appears that we will be waiting quite a long time for the next Star Wars film.
