On December 6, the sci-fi movie Interstellar will make a comeback to IMAX for its tenth anniversary. Fans of the magnificent cosmic epic and its filmmaker Christopher Nolan would normally be rejoicing at this time of year with them.
However, the Interstellar’s IMAX re – release has proven to be disappointing for a number of the followers. Pretty much every fan that wishes to watch it has been forced to do so without tickets because it has been almost entirely sold out apart from a handful of theaters.
The ticketing system and tickets and less cinemas available have worked against many.
Interstellar’s IMAX Re – Release Turns Chaotic: Limited Tickets, Last-Minute Alerts, and Frustrated Fan
The problems arose as tickets were meant to go on sale on November 7, and no prior information was given to the fans to prepare. Subsequently, tickets appeared on various applications at various times. Some fans could buy tickets on the AMC application at a certain point, while Fandango made them wait a couple of hours more.
There will only be a limited amount of IMAX cinemas screening Interstellar, and that is only for a span of one week (December 6 to December 13) in Texas.
The movie will only be spread out in eight theaters in six states. All the tickets were sold out within a day for even those fans who live very far from the cinemas, except for the tickets even for those who tended to live nearby.
There may be other showings in other cinemas at a later time, but Interstellar will have to go up against major films such as Moana two (November 27) and Sonic three (December 20). A cinema in Fort Lauderdale has assured that it will screen Interstellar for one extra week.
What You Should Expect with the Interstellar Return on IMAX
Imax and Nolan have a long history of collaboration especially when it comes to the Dark Knight trilogy that was directed by Nolan and produced by Warner Bros.
The 2023 Oscar award contender: Oppenheimer by Nolan and Universal grossed about a billion dollars in box office revenue last year that included over $190m dollars from Imax screens’ receipts (both film and digital).
Imax and Nolan are yet again joined at the hip for the latter’s next movie expected to hit cinemas around July 2026 starring Matt Damon and distributed by Universal Pictures.
Imax executives, during a recently concluded earnings call, stated that Nolan is set to experiment with new and yet to be used technology on this project.
The film won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, as well as received five nominations. Among the cast members are Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Rubert Grant, Jessica Chastain and Sir Michael Caine.
It is only right that the fans will get to enjoy the film one more time in the IMAX theatres given how Christopher Nolan’s works are heavily supervised by IMAX. The said movie is set to come out on December 6, and it is clear that the movie will be screened for only one week.
