Michael Biehn has been working outside of Hollywood’s mainstream for the past two decades in the low-budget thriller genre, has recently joined the expanding cast of Adam Wingard’s action film Onslaught, which is being directed by A24.
The film, which begins production this month, has also signed comic Eric Wareheim (Tim & Eric) and Family Matters actor Reginald VelJohnson, who is also known for his part in the action movie Die Hard.
The film, which stars Adria Arjona and features queer actor Drew Starkey and Wingard favourite Dan Stevens, is also supported by Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company. Negotiations are underway for Alex “Poatan” Pereira, the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, to join the project.
What This Means For Michael Biehn
This Is Michael Biehn’s Triumphant Comeback. Given his previous performances, Biehn’s portrayal as a mercenary leader makes sense. All three characters: Kyle Reese, Dwayne Hicks, and Lang were in some capacity military; Lang was even a mercenary, much like Biehn’s Onslaught character will be.
Biehn helped create the greatest films in the Terminator and Alien series, and he can do the same for Onslaught. His presence and action skills make him a good fit for a major role in the cast of the A24 film.
It has been much too long since Biehn starred in a big-budget motion picture, even if he has more recently been in popular television shows like The Mandalorian season 2 and as Ian in a Walking Dead season 11 episode.
As seen by his directing of several Godzilla and Kong Monsterverse films, Wingard’s style of exaggerated action will work well with Biehn’s skills. Despite being a stand-alone film, Onslaught may pave the way for Biehn to work on additional big-budget productions in the years to come.
Even while Biehn is the most intriguing member of Onslaught’s ensemble, it’s also intriguing to think about how he may interact with VelJohnson, Wareheim, Arjona, and Stevens as they confront a threat that might sound a lot like a xenomorph.
